As a certified ISST Schroth Therapist Malcolm is authorized to practice in Schroth 3-Dimensional Scoliosis Therapy According to Katharina Schroth®.

He first became interested in providing exercise therapy for scoliosis patients in 2008 when a colleague, a physiotherapist visiting from Germany, introduced him to the Schroth 3D Therapy. From the outset it was evident that the Schroth 3D Therapy could not only help to improve posture and balance,  but also prevent further curvature progression, and alleviate pain caused by the scoliosis.

“Three-Dimensional Treatment for Scoliosis – A Physiotherapeutic Method for Deformities of the Spine” by Christa Lehnert-Schroth, PT, became Malcolm’s most valuable scoliosis learning resource. The more he immersed himself in the Schroth 3D Therapy approach the more determined he was to visit the Asklepios Katharina-Schroth-Klinik in Bad Soberheim, Germany for Schroth Therapist training.

In October 2014, Malcolm together with 2 of his colleagues, Kit Laughlin  and Olivia Alnutt, attended an intensive International Schroth Therapist training course at the Bad Sobernheim Klinik.

In May 2016 Malcolm returned to the Klinik in Germany for further studies and training in the Schroth 3D Therapy. In July 2018, Malcolm was invited again to the Klinik by his mentor, Axel Hennes, to assist in the practical training of a new group of ISST Schroth Therapists.

The Schroth 3D Therapy is now widely recognized as a conservative treatment for idiopathic scoliosis in many countries throughout the world. In Australia, the Schroth 3D Therapy is also passionately supported by Rebecca Harding, Scoliosis Physiotherapy, East Kew, Melbourne; and Dr Daniel Comerford, Osteopath, Mt Eliza, Victoria.

Malcolm, and his colleagues adhere to the Society on Scoliosis Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Treatment (SOSORT) 2016 Guidelines: for the conservative treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis during growth.

History Of  Schroth 3D Therapy

The Schroth Method has developed into the most recognized conservative exercised-based treatment approach for scoliosis not only in Germany, but in Europe, the USA, South Korea, and many other countries throughout the world.

Schroth Klinic - Bad Sobernheim (1961)

Founded by Katharina Schroth in Meissen, Germany in 1921, the Schroth Method was later refined by her daughter Christa Lehnert-Schroth (author of Three-Dimensional Treatment for Scoliosis – A Physiotherapeutic Method for Deformities of the Spine, 1973) who together with her mother established the Katharina Schroth Klinic in Bad Sobernheim in 1961. From a top floor apartment, over 3 decades,  they established an expansive scoliosis centre (institute) for in-patients attending their intensive scoliosis rehabilitation program.

Development of the Schroth Method continued under the direction Dr Hans Rudolph Weiss, Orthopeadic specialist, and grandson of the founder, Katharina Schroth (Dr Weiss, was medical director of the Klinic between 1995  and 2008).

In 1995, Asklepios, a German health care provider bought the clinic and with it the rights to the Schroth Method. Patients attending the clinic live in-house during their 3 week intensive scoliosis rehabilitation program. As many as 180 patients attend the Klinic at the same time.
